19th Century Jackfield Staffordshire "Take Away" Teapot And Creamer

An group of two 19th century Jackfield Staffordshire earthenware pieces. The smaller sized ‘Take Away’ teapot feature a lovely shell, scrolled floral embossed motif. This size teapot was used as individual servings to ‘take’ to one’s room. The creamer features an elegant curved lip and handle and has a ridged band around the center of the pot. Both pieces are finished in a black glossy glaze. This style of Jackfield Staffordshire was made as an affordable alternative for those who could not afford to purchase Wedgwood’s Basalt Tea Wares but desired to own fashionable black tea wares which Wedgwood designed to make women’s hands appear whiter when serving tea. Unmarked.
