A Balthasar Leizelt 1775 engraving depicting an imaginary Pre-America view of New York City. Depicted is a riverside pier in colonial Manhattan with a large ship under construction, rowboats and ships moored nearby, a large customs house and a church in the distance. This hand colored print belongs to a series engraved in Augsburg, Germany called ‘Collection des Prospects’. The engraving was titled backwards with intention of the work being projected by a magic lantern onto a surface for viewing (a precursor to the slide projector). A similar engraving is held in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City. The colored engraving is presented under glass with a neutral mat and metallic gold finished wooden frame. It has a wire to the verso, ready to hang. This engraving is framed to coordinate with engraving at 18COL033-036.
