A Central African style carved wood mask. This piece presents lidded half-moon shaped eyes and an almond shaped mouth with a triangular nose framed by a clover shape in dark sienna against a lighter kaolin clay ground. The figure has a diamond shape on the forehead with a protrusion and holes drilled in the edges for hanging. There are no apparent maker’s marks.

- wear to finish throughout; minor scratches and chips to surface; edge wear and chip to upper edge to the verso.
