August Knoop Graphite Drawings (Group of Eight)
Item Details
Graphite on paper
A collection of graphite drawings on paper, likely sketched for larger works by celebrated German artist August Knoop (1856-1919). These eight pieces depict what seem to be studies of Dutch masters, depicting seated men drinking and posing, and a duck hanging by one leg against a white wall. The pieces are mostly marked ‘A.K. 1888’ to their lower margins, and are presented under glass in dark wooden frames with rings for hanging. There are labels to the verso partially appearing to read ‘Nachlass Kunstmaler A. Knoop’ or ‘Estate of Artist A Knoop.’
Condition
- discoloration to surface of all pieces; some pieces are loose in frames.
Dimensions
- measures the frame; visible image dimensions 4.5" W x 6" H.
