A 1947 oil painting on canvas board by listed 20th Century Indiana artist Charles R. Montgomery. This painting, titled Aunt Mary, depicts an elderly woman wearing a brown overcoat seated in a wooden chair. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right corner and is housed in an ornate gold tone wooden frame with floral and scrolling motifs. The verso of the painting features a hand-written label with the artist’s name and title of the piece. Beside it is a second hand-written label with biographical information about Aunt Mary.
Condition
- canvas lifting to both lower corners; surface scuff marks throughout; paint loss; overpainting as seen under blacklight; pieces of decorative moulding missing; wear to frame consistent with age and use.
