Paul Chidlaw Collection of Four Marker Drawings on Paper

Item Details

A collection of four marker drawings on paper by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist Paul Chidlaw (Cincinnati, 1900 – 1989). The pieces are each rendered in energetic and layered marks in earthy hues, suggesting street scenes and cityscapes, some including figures, Each piece is marked to the verso with a stamp from the artist’s estate. They are presented unframed, awaiting your choice of presentation. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
