A earthenware ceramic bowl designed by celebrated Spanish artist Pablo Picasso (1881 – 1973), titled Pécheur à la Ligne. This partially glazed bowl features an image of a fisherman seated next to a tree. The bowl is stamped to the underside, ‘Madoura Empreinte Originale de Picasso.’ As the mark suggests, the work was created by Picasso transferring the image form an original print onto clay. It is thought to be one of an edition of 100.

Pablo Picasso was a pioneer of Modern art. Born in 1881 in Malaga, Spain, he was the son of an artist and began to draw at an early age. Throughout the rest of his career, Picasso worked in a range of styles including Neoclassicism and Surrealism. His oeuvre includes not only paintings and prints, but collage, theatrical designs, sculpture and ceramics. He had a profound influence on the development of art in the 20th Century, and his works are part of museum collections around the world.

Condition

- heavily restored; re-adhered with B72 in Acetone.; small crevices filled with Modostuc; sanded and in-painted with Golden liquid acrylics; fractures are still visible.
