A vintage hand-knotted Kazak wool area rug remnant. This rug is a portion from a carpet runner, and it is rendered in an abrashed palette of madder red, wheat, sky blue, sapphire, carnation, sage, mahogany, and ivory. The madder red colored lozenge begins with a central stepped medallion infilled with arrow motifs and small animal motifs. The field also features stepped boxes, and geometrically shaped palmettes, enclosed with sapphire grounded notches that are infilled with filler motifs of leaves, florettes, and more animals. Framing the field to the edges is a main leaf and blossom border, along with a pair of arrow and rosette meandering guard borders. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a short wool warp fringe to the ends, as well as reinforced stitching. Unlabeled.
