A mid century reproduction print on paper titled Four Accomplishments of Geisha after a late 19th-century painted folding screen by Edo-era artist Shibata Zeshin (Japanese, 1807–1891). The two-piece print, originally conceived as a work over six panels, depicts a group of figures seated and watching as three women in colorful kimonos dance, each holding a hand fan. The work includes an inscription and seal in plate to the lower left. It is matted in patterned fabric and presented without glass in a wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- scuffs, scratches and abrasions to surface, with areas of image loss throughout; stains, foxing, discoloration and toning throughout print and fabric mat; tears to edges of fabric; print consists of two pieces; scratches, edge wear and nicks to frame; tears to frame’s backing paper.
