A mid-century gouache painting on paper by listed New York artist Cydney Grossman (born 1909). The piece depicts a ballerina wearing a floral hair garland and a dress with daisy motif sleeves, green bodice and sheer layered skirt. She is depicted standing backstage while gazing at her reflection in a hand mirror, as another dancer stands next to the closed curtain and watches from a distance. The work is signed ‘Cydney’ to the lower right. It is presented under glass in a cream wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso. The frame backing is marked with a circa 1950s Barnes Fine Arts gallery sticker.

Condition

- slight toning and discoloration to paper; glass could be cleaned more thoroughly; light wear to frame finish; dust and accretion present; some frame joints do not meet evenly.
