1782 Financial Document Signed by Delaware Patriot George Read
Item Details
A 1782 document signed by American Revolutionary Patriot George Read. Notoriously cautious Delaware lawyer George Read (1733-1798) favored reconciliation with Great Britain and therefore voted against American independence, yet signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 when the motion was adopted over him. He returned to Delaware politics, and in 1782, he signed the bottom of this document as receipt for seventeen pounds and seventeen shillings. The paper is presented in a black mat, under glass in a black wooden frame with a gold-toned border and a wire hanger to the verso. The piece is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication.
