A correspondence document signed (extra handwriting penned in the hand of the signee) by American Revolutionary Patriot Francis Lewis. Welsh-born businessman Francis Lewis (1713-1802) entered politics after his release from a French prison during the French and Indian War; in 1761, he signed this document, addressed only to ‘Sir,’ concerning an order of wine, and of the future occupation of Mr. Stephen Sayer. Lewis was later elected as a New York representative to the Continental Congress, and signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The document is presented on a black mat, under glass in a black frame with a gold-toned border and a wire hanger to the verso. New York, October 19, 1761. 1 page, 4to. The piece is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication.
