Hand-Knotted Peshawar Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Peshawar area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a tea-washed palette of camel, peach, cream, celadon, cinnamon, pale blue, crimson and taupe, designed to minimize contrast. It begins with two round medallions over an hour-glass contoured inner field grounded in camel and tucked into an outer field of pale blue and celadon. Populating both phases of the field as well as the medallions is a riot of palmettes, pomegranates, flowers, leaves and vines. The field is framed by four borders, including a wide herati main border filled with palmettes and flowers over peach. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short kilim skirts and tan wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
