An oil painting on board of a landscape by well listed American artist Andrew Thomas Schwartz. (1867 – 1942) This Impressionistic painting depicts a lightly wooded landscape rendered in a muted palette of grayed violets, yellows, and reds. The artist has used an impasto technique throughout the surface of the painting. This piece is signed to the lower left. It is presented in a gold-tone beveled frame. The verso of this piece is equipped to hang.
Schwartz, a Kentucky native, studied with Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy and later at the Art Student’s League of New York where he was awarded a scholarship that enabled him to spend several years painting in France, Spain, and Germany. Upon his return, the artist embarked upon a successful career as a muralist and painter. He was a member of the National Society of Mural Painters, the Salmagundi Club, the Architectural League of New York, Allied Artists of America, American Watercolor Society, the Circolo Artistico of Rome, Italy, and the Union International Des Beaux Arts et Des Lettres of Paris, France.
