Antique Japanese Kutani Vase Attributed to Kutani Shōzō
Item Details
An antique hand-painted ceramic Japanese vase attributed to Kutan Shōzō (九谷庄三, 1816-1883), an important early master of the new Kutani kinrande style of the 19th century. The vase boasts a clean white glaze as its base, with an intricately painted pheasant surrounded by stylized clouds and paulownia leaves. The underside of the vase is marked ‘Great Japan, Ishikawa Prefecture, Nomi District, Terai Village, Painted by Kutani Shōzō’ (大日本石川能美郡, 寺井村, 九谷庄三画 ).
