An early 20th century mural-size oil painting on plywood of a mountainous Maine landscape by John Francis. This American School landscape features a wintry scene with patches of pine trees scattered throughout the terrain. A lone moose wanders in the foreground, Native American hunters are visible in the distance, and a brown mountain range is silhouetted against a clear sky in the distant background. The painting is signed to the lower right. It remains unframed.

- to fair; wear consistent with age including craquelure, paint loss, and paint chipping scattered throughout composition; toning and color fading scattered throughout; spots of accretion scattered throughout; 3-inch chip present to upper right edge of plywood; small chips and wear throughout edges; shallow splits throughout plywood; holes present at corners from previous display.
