A partly-engraved document signed by Thomas Jefferson as President with countersignature of James Madison as Secretary of State. These ’ship’s papers’ allow the ship Constellation, commanded by William Hamilton, trouble free passage as ‘appearing by good testimony to belong to one or more of the Citizens of the United States…’ The order has an embossed seal to the lower left corner and is signed ‘By the President’ Thomas Jefferson to the lower right corner. This document is presented with a printed portrait of Thomas Jefferson, behind a black mat, behind glass, in a black and gold frame wired for hanging. November 14, 1807. EDS 1 page, tall folio, vellum.
