A partly printed war-date document signed in form of Court of Common Pleas instruction addressed to all of the sheriffs of South Carolina from Thomas Heyward Jr. regarding British loyalist Edward Fenwicke. This document written on behalf of the State of South Carolina instructs the sheriffs of each district to take possession of all deeds and goods under the account of Edward Fenwicke and includes a scheduled court date in Charleston. The letter is signed by Thomas Heyward Jr. a wealthy planter, signer of the American Articles of Confederation on behalf of South Carolina in 1778, and a judge of the criminal courts for the newly established government. The letter is presented behind a black mat, behind glass, in a black and gold tone frame wired for hanging. Charleston, July 6, 1779. DS 1 page, oblong small folio. The piece is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication.
