An autograph letter signed by American Evangelist William A. ‘Billy’ Sunday (1862–1935). Billy Sunday established himself as a professional baseball player as an outfielder for the Chicago White Stockings and Philadelphia Phillies before retiring to become a renowned pulpit preacher, delivering fiery oratory throughout the Midwest in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This note, written to his friend Morris in response to a query about his health, is signed to the bottom ‘W.A. Sunday, Psalm 34’ and is dated Feb[ruar]y 22, 1932 from ‘Franklyn’ (Franklin County), P[ennsylvani]a. The letter is matted along with a copy and explanatory text within a navy blue mat, and set under glass in a black wooden frame with a gold-toned border, with a wire hanger to the verso. February 22, 1932. ALS 1 page, 4to. The piece is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication.
