Antique Treen Personal Liquor Cask

An antique treen personal liquor canteen. This 18th – 19th century hand-carved wooden miniature cask is barrel shaped with incised bands mimicking a larger liquor rundlet design. It has a hole for a stopper, a wooden stopper, a dark rich patina and carved initials on the ends. This type of personal cask, carved from a single piece of wood, was used by American troops from the mid-eighteenth century through the Revolutionary War and into the mid-nineteenth century.
