An acrylic painting on panel by American contemporary artist Jim J. Nelson. This piece depicts an abstract composition featuring an United States flag, a herd of buffalo, and an indigenous Lakota figure as the focal point. This painting is signed ‘J. Nelson’ to the lower left corner of the picture plane. It is presented in an open wooden frame with a wire hanger to the verso.

Nelson, a nationally acclaimed artist and storyteller, whose work is inspired by his Lakota neighbors, says of his own work ‘I don’t just paint a person or an animal; I paint the spirit of that person or animal. It is my hope that the viewer will feel a connection to that spirit and have a better understanding of this proud and noble people.’
