A 1996 Russian gouache painting on paper of a town scene. This Folk Art style painting depicts two farmers carrying water and ushering along a horse harvesting a bundle of hay towards their snowy lodge, as a cathedral and town are seen hovering in the distance. Encapsulating the composition is a dark sky accented with snowfall and an ochre full moon. The painting is presented under glass beneath matting in a silver tone wooden frame with cursive Cyrillic to the verso. It translates: ‘Elena Khmeleva, St. Petersburg. 1996, ’Russian Winter’’.

Condition

- craquelure present throughout painting; ground is warped; toning, foxing, and water spots present on matting; scuffs and scratches throughout frame.
