An abstract acrylic painting on paper made in 1980 by contemporary American artist Bill Schiffer. This piece features swathes of red and pale brown, loosely outlining a sculptural black shape at the center. The painting is signed and dated to its lower right and is presented unframed.
Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
