Antique English Cross-Stitch Samplers

A pair of antique English cross-stitch samplers. The lot features a sampler worked with two alphabet examples and a devotional quotation with geometric line breaks, a scalloped border, and pictorial motifs that include animals, crowns, and flowers. It is dated 1783 and worked in both cross-stitch and using eyelet whitework techniques. Also included is a small alphabet and numeral sample in red marked by ‘A.A. Langhorne Kendal Green School. 1886.’ Both works are presented behind glass in wood frames with hanging hardware to the versos.
Condition
- some discoloration particularly to older item; some nicks and wear to frames; water damage to verso of smaller piece.
