Framed Jean Francois Millet "The Gleaners" Print

Item Details

A print of Jean Francois Millet’s ‘The Gleaners’, one of his most famous paintings. The original from 1857 is now housed in the Musée d’Orsay.

While living in Barbizon, Millet noticed peasants gleaning, a centuries-old act of poor women and children removing the bits of grain left in the fields after harvest. His painting conveys a sympathetic view of what was considered the lowest ranks of rural French society at that time. The painting was originally released to much criticism, with the French upper class taking the view that Millet was glorifying the lowest class of peasant workers.

Our offering is framed in a thick gilt-toned frame, with ornate detailing.
