1934 Commemorative Japanese Brass Vase with Silver Inlay

Item Details

A 1934 commemorative Japanese bronze vase with silver inlay. The work features a bird-and-flower motif along the body in silver inlay. To the underside is impressed Japanese text, translating to, ‘In commemoration of the completion of the railway from Shimonoseki to Rinko June 11 of Shōwa 9’ (臨港鐡道竣互記念昭和九年六月十一日下關市), dating the work to circa 1934 (Shōwa 9). A seal reading ‘Made in Yamagata District’ (山縣郡製) is also impressed on the underside. A paper with the translation is included.

Condition

- mild patina to the surface; dust inside the vase.
