A Blue Willow porcelain platter and pitcher. The oval platter and pitcher display the transfer-printed Blue Willow pattern, with geometric fretwork trim. Blue Willow tells the tale of star-crossed lovers who are persecuted and turned into birds by benevolent gods so that they can fly away together. The pattern is inspired by a 1780 Thomas Turner copper plate. The platter is marked ‘Blue Willow Expressly manufactured for Heritage Mint Ltd’ and the pitcher has no discernible maker’s marks.
