Antique 19th Century English Tantalus
Item Details
A 19th century English tantalus. The antique tantalus is made of oak with a medium stain and is trimmed with gothic style brass hardware. The tantalus holds three cut glass decanters against a mirrored back. A locking mechanism holds the bottles in place until opened by a key. The lock is marked ‘Bramah London’ dating the piece to the 1800s. When unlocked and opened, two blue velvet lined compartments are revealed. A drawer to the lower portion of the tantalus opens to reveal an area for storing game pieces. The drawer contains a cribbage board, die, and betting chips. The piece is not marked further to indicate a maker.
