A hand-knotted Caucasian Kuba area rug. This wool rug features a design of stylized, large-scale palmettes, split leaves and bold, abstract motifs over an onyx field. At each corner are hooked geometric floral motifs with sawtooth edges. The design elements are worked in azure, gold, ice blue, ocean and deep scarlet red. Framing the field are carnation meander guard borders flanking a main border with a geometric floral pattern grounded in ivory. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing with a blue kilim skirt and natural wool warp fringe at either end. It is unlabeled.
