Large Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Area Rug
Item Details
A large antique Persian area rug. This gorgeous wool rug is hand-knotted in an abrashed palette of midnight blue, ruby, sapphire, rose, caramel and camel. It features a vase design beginning with a small star ruby medallion in the middle of a midnight blue field, surrounded by four ogival medallions. Filling the medallions as well as the field are crisply rendered vines, palmettes, carnations, wildflowers, buds and foliate elements. The field is framed by five floral-meander borders, including a wide herati main border featuring palmettes, flowers, Garrus-style split-leaf motifs and vines over camel. Minor borders are grounded in ruby and sapphire. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short ivory kilim skirts and ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
