Pair of 19th Century Qajar Hand-Painted Baccarat Crystal Mantle Lusters
Item Details
A pair of antique Baccarat crystal mantle lusters. These pieces were created for the Persian market, decorated with the national emblem of the Kingdom of Iran. Each piece features a flared hurricane shade with cornered rim and delicate etched floral pattern. The shade is hand-painted with a gilt lion, sword in hand, backed by a figural sun. This motif is trimmed with floral urns and gilt scrolls. The shade is finished with interlocking cut diamond panels and thumbprints. This design is repeated to the bobeche, trimmed with ten notched spear prisms. The piece rests on a banded, curvilinear stem and cut floriform pedestal. The Qajar dynasty, or Sublime State of Persia, ruled between 1789–1925; these pieces are dated to the 19th century.
