Item Details
An oil painting on canvas of a genre scene, dated to the mid to late 19th century. The quiet and contemplative work depicts an elderly woman with a cat. The piece is presented in a late 20th century gilt wood frame.
Condition
- to fair; minor wear to the finish on the frame; two repair patches to the canvas verso; under UV light, over-painting present to the lower right and upper left corner; under UV light, extensive in-painting throughout the figure’s face, chest, shoulders, and parts of the wall behind the figure; two smaller than dime-sized areas of missing paint from the figure’s head scarf.
