A hand-knotted pictorial wool area rug, likely Kurdish in origin. This wool pictorial rug features a directional design rendered in a palette of cocoa, ivory and chocolate brown. It begins with a bird in flight to the center and two elongated palmettes with a bird perched atop each. To the top is a structure decorated with a vase form and a cartouche below infilled with three fish. Surrounding these elements are tree forms along with more birds joined by complimentary spandrels. Framing the rug are carnation meander guard borders and a main border with Shah Abbasi palmettes, tree form pendants and floral vines. Selvedges are triple overcast, the rug finishing with a kilim skirt and ivory warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
