An oil painting on canvas titled Sunset Taos Pueblo by listed American artist Charles C. Stewart (New York/New Mexico/Ohio; 1922 – 2011). This Modernist abstract composition features layers of brightly colored overlapping geometric forms that represent the sun approaching a mountainous horizon line in the high desert of New Mexico. The work is signed by Stewart in the lower right, and signed and titled in graphite on the wooden stretcher rail on the back. It is presented in a decoratively weathered wooden frame with silver tone and gold tone trim. There is a hanging wire mounted to the verso.
Stewart’s works are represented in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, as well as private collections.

Condition

- cracks to paint at edges; dent to frame at upper center; some nicks and wear to frame.
