A mixed media sculpture titled Hymn to the Night from the Dystopia Series by American artist Frank Kowing (1944-2016), created in 2008. This work features an abstract composition rendered with sticks, acrylic paint, and other found objects. It is titled and dated to an attached label. While this work is not signed, it comes directly from the artists estate. This work is fitted with a hanging wire to the verso. Accompanied by a descriptive catalog on the artist’s painting series Journey of Healing.
Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation, the bulk of his focus being mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania
