A mixed media sculpture titled DIDI by Maryland artist Frank Kowing (1944-2016), created in 2007. This work depicts an abstract composition with a central canvas panel with the titled inscribed on it. It is rendered with sticks, acrylic paint, rope, and other found items. It is signed, titled, and dated to the verso. Fitted with a hanging wire to the verso. Accompanied by a descriptive catalog on the artist’s painting series Journey of Healing.

Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation. The bulk of his focus is mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970’s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
