A hand-knotted Persian Hamadan area rug. This wool rug begins with a stepped star medallion and attached hooked pendants. The remaining field is filled with symmetrically placed geometric boteh, star forms, pinwheels, tree filler motifs and cruciforms. It is worked in a palette of pink, cinnamon, cobalt, ivory and maroon. Framing the field are boteh repeats and barber pole borders. The main border boasts cartouche floral pendants, boxed florets and geometric patterns grounded in indigo. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing with ivory warp fringe at either end. Labeled with a tag to the verso indicating country of origin.
