Hand-Knotted Gabbeh Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted wool area rug. The carpet has been woven in variegated and abrash shades of black, ivory, maize, sky blue, green, rust, and rosy salmon. A stepped diamond medallion dominates the field while six small figures are placed around it. The spandrels are worked in green and maize and each is populated by a figure of an animal. A bird appears in the green corners while a four-legged animal is positioned in the pale yellow corners. The compound border includes serrate and barber pole stripes flanking laleh abbasi. The rug has short skirts with knotted fringe.
