Antique Ansonia Summit Strike Mantle Clock

An antique Ansonia Summit Strike mantel clock. The clock style was award winning at the Paris Exposition in 1878 for its design and strike mechanism. The clock has a gingerbread style oak case with a secondary wood of walnut and features a carved finial with scalloped and scrolled pediments, fluted side columns and carved wood applique. Other features of the clock include a brass framed glass door displaying a bezel with an embossed decorative design. The bezel surrounds a porcelain face with black Roman numerals, two brass key arbors and black hands set on a brass center with an embossed floral design. The clock has a half hour gong strike with strikes of the number of hours on the hour and a brass movement, a hinged door on the verso and the clock stands on a plinth style base with bracket feet. The clock is labeled ‘Ansonia Clock Company, New York.’ on the face.
