Hand-Knotted Turkish Heriz Area Rug

A hand-knotted Turkish Heriz area rug. This wool rug has an eight-point medallion with a serrated edge and curvilinear palmettes in a palette of brick red, sage, blue, olive green, ivory, and deep blue, inside of a larger brick red medallion patterned with more curvilinear foliate forms. The outside edge of the main field has an ivory field with a stylized foliate motif, lozenges, and bird forms, and geometric corner treatments. The main border has a samovar motif against a deep blue ground, flanked by meandering carnation guard borders. Selvedges are double overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
