Semi-Antique Handwoven Anatolian Kilim
Item Details
A semi-antique hand woven Anatolian kilim long rug. The rug features a rectilinear scarlet red lozenge, infilled with a central hexagonal medallion in ochre and pale grey, with stylized rosette filler. The medallion is surrounded by four ochre-colored hooked muska, or talismans, believed to have ‘magical’ properties. tree forms radiate out from the central medallion, with hooked ram’s horn medallions and endless knot guls. This pattern is repeated in the outer bands of the field, in contrasting and complementary colors. The field is framed by a chained bead primary border in the field colors on a taupe ground. The selvedges are double overcast in alternating madder, ochre and taupe. The rug has cropped wool warp fringe; the ends have been overstitched to preserve the weft, likely from a prior restoration or repair. It has a small cloth label with production numbers to the underside.
