An oil painting on canvas by well-listed artist Hayley Lever (1876 – 1958). This Post-Impressionist work depicts a cluster of sail and race boats gather along a Massachusetts shoreline. The piece is signed to the lower right corner. It is presented in a simple brushed wood frame. A gallery label is attached to the frame’s verso.
Hayley Lever was born in Adelaide, Australia in 1876 and showed an early interest in art. He would then move to England in 1893 for formal training and eventually to London where he studied in an artist colony. During his time at the art colony the artist would begin to create his seascapes and landscapes he is known for. In 1911 Lever moved to New York where he would gain a following and eventually teach at the Art Students League in 1931. Lever’s works can be found in major institutions including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and The New Britain Museum of Art to name a few.
