Bischoff was a well known genre painter of the 19th century, and his subjects were often recurring. While it is believed that this work is late 19th century and likely after the artist, it would have been a popular subject in it’s day. The work is very clean and likely executed by an artist with strong academic training.

Condition

- wear and craquelure throughout gesso on frame; consistent craquelure and visible stretcher marks throughout the composition; under UV light multiple areas of inpainting are revealed; this canvas has been relined.

- measures the frame; sight size measures 22" W x 28" H.
