A woodblock print titled Eggs of Silk Worms (常陸國美良蠶之図) from the series Pictures of Products and Industries of Japan (日本物産図會) by Utagawa Hiroshige III (三代目 歌川 広重, 1843-1894), also known as Andō Tokubei (安藤徳兵). This piece depicts a group of intricately rendered figures in a Japanese interior structure talking with each other and having refreshments. The series title is printed in the upper right corner and the print series is printed alongside a poetic description. The in-block artist’s signature is printed in the lower right margin. This print is presented in a wooden frame, under glass, and with a wire hanger to its verso. A label with the artist’s name and other miscellaneous information is present to the verso.
Condition
- marks to upper center and right of print; tear to upper and lower center; some discoloration throughout print; some kanji characters cut off to lower right; scratches and abrasions throughout frame with finish loss.
