Hand-Knotted Persian Heriz Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Heriz wool area rug. The rug has been worked in a palette which includes shades of pale pink, indigo, black, ivory, salmon, buff, brick, and black. A large lobed pendant medallion begins with an eight-pointed star which is extended by hooked projections infilled with palmettes. The ivory field is densely infilled with stylized rectilinear leaf and vine motifs. The shape of the pendants is echoed in the geometric palmettes in the spandrels. The minor borders have carnation and meanders and they flank a wide herati primary border. The selvedges have been double overcast and the fine short fringe at each end is stabilized. It is labeled to the underside.
