Hand-Knotted Signed Persian Tabriz Pictorial Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian pictorial wool area rug, attributed to weavers of Tabriz. This rug is rendered in a palette of sand, mocha, sepia, teal, powder blue, coral, and mauve. The sand hued field features a central medallion depicting a cheerful scene with fish in water, along with a leaping antelope, a tree perched bird, and lush foliage, while housed in a serrated frame with vining pendants. The pendants vine into ornate floral bouquets, and are accompanied by other flowering branches, as well as a cartouche to one end with an inscription. Framing the field is a main split leaf and blossom meandering border, along with a pair of Hamadan guard borders. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a short wool warp fringe to the ends, as well as a label to the underside.
