Peter Max Embellished Giclée "Cindy Woo: The Cow That Jumped Over The Moon"

Item Details

A signed embellished giclée print Cindy Woo: The Cow That Jumped Over The Moon (Ver. II #4) by well-listed and renowned German-American Pop artist Peter Max (born 1937). This piece depicts ‘Cinci Freedom’, a cow that jumped a six-foot fence to escape slaughter. The artist arranged for the relocation of the animal from Cincinnati to a sanctuary in New York state. The artist has applied colorful expressive brushstrokes around the subject and added a colorful border in his signature style. This piece is signed by hand to the upper right. It is presented in a black floater frame. The verso of this piece is signed by the artist and includes a dedication and illustration. Included with this item are two newspaper articles about the subject and a certificate of authenticity.

Max received his formal art education in the 1950s at the Art Students League of New York in Manhattan, where he studied anatomy, figure drawing and composition under the tutelage of Frank J. Reilly. Max began his career in illustration and graphic arts by creating collage-based works using elements taken from antique photographs. His interest in astronomy led to his self-described “Cosmic ’60s” period, where his art became a symbol of the counterculture with its flamboyant use of bright rainbow colors and psychedelic images.
