Vintage Memory Jug

A jug. With its roots in the African Bakongo culture and later influences on the American South and Appalachia, memory jugs were often used as a memorial to an individual after their passing. This memory jug is ca 1950’s 1960’s when they saw a revival and features a stoneware jug covered in epoxy and decorated with chains, glass beads, a projectile point, part of a comb, belt buckle, music box key, scissors, seashells and many other personal items.
