Large Hand-Knotted Indo-Persian "Kashan" Area Rug

A large Indo-Persian Kashan area rug. This Indian-made wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of emerald, cream, rose and gray. It features a harshang pattern incorporating curvilinear, stylized palmettes, lancet leaves, flowers and delicate vines over an emerald field. The field is framed by eight borders, including a herati main border featuring palmettes, boteh and flowers over cream. Minor borders include laleh abbasi and meandering-floral patterns. The outer guard border is emerald. Selvedges are overcast, with leather strips sewn to the underside. The rug finishes at each end with mesh skirts and ivory wool warp fringe. It is labeled on the reverse.

Condition
- there are some tiny speckle stains near one end of the rug; slight damage to support straps on underside; it could benefit from professional cleaning.
