A hand-knotted Caucasian Kazak wool long rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of black, madder red, emerald, clementine, saffron, carnation, sky blue, wheat, and white. The black hued field begins with bold hooked octagonal medallions infilled with a central palmette, along with floral motifs. The field also features memling guls, eight pointed stars, and animal head motifs. Framing the field is a main leaf and calyx border, along with a pair of sawtooth guard borders. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and kilim skirts to the ends, one with a braided binding and warp fringe. Unlabeled.
